Jonathan Cayce

Education:
B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, University of Alabama at Birmingham, 2006

Research:

Jonathan's research focuses on developing optical stimulation to be used in the brain, specifically in the cortical cortex.  He has recently optimized the parameters of optical stimulation in vitro in the thalamocortical brain slice, and shown feasibility for in vivo optical stimulation in the somatosensory cortex.    For his PhD degree, he plans to optimize optical stimulation in an in vivo model, and to show feasibility for chronic optical stimulation.  Completion of this work will have significant impact in neuro-surgery by improving on current electrical techniques used to diagnose and treat neurological disorders.

Personal Bio:

Jonathan is currently in his second year of graduate studies at Vanderbilt.  He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2006.  Jonathan enjoys participating in intramurals, watching any type of sporting event (especially college sports), and a movie and popcorn on the weekends.  Jonathan recently finished his Masters Degree as a part of the Biomedical Optics Lab, and plans to continue working in the Optics Lab in pursuit of his PhD.
